Training Positions
Candidates for training positions, please note:
The minimum experience period under supervision of a European Patent Attorney required by candidates to sit the European Qualifying Examination is now 3 years for level 1 exam, and 4 years for Final exam.
The minimum experience period required before the central industrial property office of an EU member state to qualify as a European Trade Mark Attorney under Article 93(2) Council Regulation EC 207/2009 is 5 years.

Franks & Co are a mainstream full service Legal 500 listed firm of European Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys. We seek a European Patent and Trade Mark Attorney for a long-term position at our Sheffield office.
The role is that of a traditional private practice patent and trade mark agent, encompassing the full range of intellectual property encountered in a mid-sized private practice patent and trade mark agency, dealing with SME’s, Universities and foreign clients.
Candidates with electronics/software, materials science or general engineering are preferred. A PhD in an engineering subject and/or industrial engineering experience would be an advantage. A patent attorney litigator certificate or a UK registered trade mark attorney qualification would also be useful.
There may be the opportunity to take on management responsibilities in addition to the core patent and trade mark attorney role.
We seek a commercially minded candidate with strong inter-personal skills, high professional standards, commitment and enthusiasm. The role involves a high degree of client contact, and the usual business development activities of a private practice role. Client acquisition and development, including foreign travel, is an essential part of the role and the job would be suited to a person already having extensive private practice experience including business development experience.
