Estelle joined Franks & Co in 2007 after having worked in the Intellectual Property Group of the Defence Procurement Agency, dealing with a variety of IP matters arising throughout the Ministry of Defence.
Qualifications
Estelle obtained a 1st class Chemistry Degree (BSc with Honours) at the University of Dundee in 2000. In her final year Estelle was awarded the Evelyn Gow Prize - awarded to the Top Female Honours Chemistry Student and the Irvine Jubilee Medal in Chemistry - awarded the most distinguished student of Chemistry.
Estelle went on to obtain a Professional Certificate in Management from the Open University in 2004 and her Certificate in Intellectual Property Law in the same year.
Commercial & technical
Estelle gained direct commercial experience working for the Sales and Marketing Department of Sigma Aldrich Chemical Company. Estelle went on to work for the Technology Transfer Department of the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory where she worked as part of a team managing technology transfer and spin out of MOD intellectual property.

Estelle has experience of the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in the UK and other major industrial countries. She has extensive experience of managing intellectual property rights on behalf of clients with particular involvement in patent licensing, and other intellectual property related agreements. Estelle’s day to day casework involves the full range of intellectual property including designs, copyright, patents and trade marks. Estelle handles chemical and mechanical work as well as some biotech work and general management of clients’ IP portfolios.
