Nicholas joined Franks & Co in 2007 after having worked for a large regional firm of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys.
Technical
Nicholas obtained his BSc Honours degree in Physics and Sports Science at the University of Loughborough in 1992, and went on to achieve his PhD in Medical Physics from the University of Manchester in 1997.
Professional
Nicholas is a representative before the UK Patent Office, UK Trade Marks Registry, UK Designs Registry, the European Patent Office, the Community Trade Marks and Designs Office, and the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).
Nicholas's specialist practice area is representing US, Japanese and far eastern clients before the European Patent Office, and Nicholas is experienced at representing clients in opposition and oral proceedings before the European Patent Office opposition and technical divisions.
Nicholas's experience working directly with UK based small to medium sized enterprises, includes identifying intellectual property rights, possible infringement situations, filing and prosecuting applications for patents, trade marks and registered designs and advising on unregistered design rights and copyright. His work encompasses the whole range of intellectual property rights, with a particular emphasis on representing large and medium sized corporations before the European Patent Office.
Nicholas also worked in specialist technical fields for International electrical and mechanical engineering companies and major UK and world wide retailers in prosecuting and advising on their intellectual property portfolios.
