Steve joined Franks & Co in November 2024
Steve began his professional career in Sheffield as a metallurgist specialising in high-speed steel and sintered carbides. He used this knowledge and experience to forge a career in technical sales and marketing, working in a diverse range of market sectors such as automotive, aerospace, and defence - both in the UK and across Europe.
In his various sales and marketing roles, he has worked closely with researchers, developers, designers and manufacturing engineers to help them solve challenges and develop new technologies, taking products from concept, through prototyping and testing, to final manufacture. He has been involved in several government funded projects (previously TSB but now Innovate UK) collaborating with manufacturing partners and academic institutions to deliver meaningful outcomes - often within tight budgetary and time constraints.
Steve’s key strengths are in metals formulation, processing and finishing, but he also has considerable experience in electronic and electro-mechanical products.
Steve says:
“I really enjoy being involved in the product development side of things. I find working from a customer’s basic idea and then seeing this mature to full scale manufacture both exciting and fulfilling. People who work in engineering will understand how this can often become an obsession and will be familiar with that urge to push and prod things to see how they work and how they’ve been put together – whether this be on a plane, in a car, or just walking down the street. This is much to the annoyance of my wife, who pretends to be interested.”
In his spare time Steve likes to travel and explore the outdoors, which he combines with his hobby of photography.
